Replacing the Wood Under The Sink
Many times the wood under our sink becomes rotted out, due to some kind of water damage,
From the water filtration system, to the leaky plumbing,
Over the years it just gets kinda funky and sometimes even moldy,
All the chemicals we store under the sink also play a part over time,
The first thing to do is acess the damage,
There usually is some kind of support that can also become rotted out,
Remove everything from under the sink, including the water filtration system
*note…make sure you turn the water off, and have some buckets to catch the excess water,
Next, remove the board,
If you can remove the board in one piece, use it as a template for your new board, if not, you’ll have to measure,
Once you remove the board, you’ll have access to the support underneath, if it’s compromised you’ll want to add support, you may even want to add more support anyway since your already there,
Again, you can use a piece of the old supprt as a template,
Once your template is cut, (1/2″ or 3/4″ plywood), you’ll want to treat it to make water resistant, before you install it,
I prefer to use a fast drying stain, wait for it to dry, and then apply polyurethane (2-3 coats)
Place your new board over your supports and anchor down with some screws,
*note…sometimes its easier to remove the cabinet doors to have easier access underneath,
Put your things back under and your good to go!
