Storage Shelves (Above Garage Doors)

A recent client purchased some ceiling anchored, metal storage shelves from Amazon

In her case, her garage ceiling was tall enough to install over the center bar track of her garage doors,

It took me 7hrs to install 3, so you may want to set aside multiple different times if your interested in more than one,

What I love about them is there sleek look, and the utilization of unused space,

The most challenging part of the project was measuring out the layout as it relates to the studs, although there is wiggle room,

The kit come with screw bolts, but I used 3″ GRK screws (star head for a better grip), they’re much easier to drill into the ceiling rafters,

Make sure you have a good stud finder, Amazon has many,

Mounting the horizontal ceiling brackets,

Note: Mount the ceiling brackets past where you want to hang your verticle brackets, the ceiling brackets are slotted, so there’s lots of wiggle room, you don’t want to come up short,

The shelves I intalled were 8’×2′, I installed the two horizontal ceiling brackets on the 8′ run (using a tape measue but then installing the brackets past the 8′ mark (wiggle wiggle, lol)

Then, I used the 2′ side support rails to create my 2′ mark for the parallel brackets, easy peesy,

Installing the verticle brackets,

Note 2: Be sure your lock slots on your verticle brackets are facing the right direction for dropping in the side rail supports (smaller part of the teardrop on the bottom) and don’t tighten the bolts all the way with the nuts,

Now the fun begins,

Drop in your side support rails, and bang them in place with a rubber mallet (hammer with duct tape works as well),

Now step back to see if all your verticle verticle brackets are perpendicular to the floor and ceiling, if not, they can slide in the slots of the ceiling brackets,

once you find the optimal location, tighten your nuts and bolts on your verticle brackets,

And, wait for it,

Your good to go!
