What Exactly is a Handyman?
By, Go Joe Handyman,
Someone recently gave me an example of the difference between a Contractor and a Handyman.
They used a pocket door (a door that slides on a track inside of a wall) as an example, they went on to say that when a pocket door comes out of track, a contractor will most likely break open the wall to access the track.
By breaking the wall, the overall time and expense has multiplied…..said contractor would need to include sheetrock, mud, sheetrock tape, paint, etc., etc., it would involve multiple steps and multiple days,
Where as…..
A handyman, will approach the project with a different mindset, they will look for ways to work more efficiently and thus saving the homeowner both time and money!
For example, they may have more specialized tools, sort of a surgeon vs a general practitioner,
They may have a repair vs replace option for the end user,
Please understand,
I’m not saying a contractor doesn’t have its place, if your doing a major remodel, your first step woud be to consider starting with a designer and then choosing a contractor.
Please see photo of a Handyman’s tool used to fix a pocket door.
I hope this has added more clarification of the difference between a handyman vs contractor
