Hanging Drywall
Sometimes, it’s necessary to puzzle pieces of drywall when fitting around fixed items, such as plumbing, pedestal sinks or anything fixed to the wall that one does not want to move or disconnect,
Be ready to measure twice, even three times, and cut once,
The best way to cut drywall is with a drywall T-square (48″ long) and a utility knife,
Start with a new blade and change it when there’s a difference in it’s performance, the sharper the better!
Place the T-square on the drywall and score through the white side, sliding the utility knife down the T-square, keeping it firmly pressed against the T-square, if your cutting a the full width,(48″), go down about 3/4’s the way and come up from the bottom the rest of the way,
Now the fun part, once the drywall is scored well, the dtywall will snap, use your knee and place it on the seam of the paper side, (opposite the white side) bending the dryall, untill it snaps, it will snap in a perfectly straight line, use your utility knife to cut the paper from the other side where the drywall is still connected,
Wallah, your now an expert,
In a recent project, many cuts had to be made, it was one big drywall puzzle,
The other tool that one will need is a drywall saw,
What’s great about a drywall saw, is it’s sharp tip, it can be pushed directly into drwall so one can then begin cutting from that point, such as a light fixture opening that’s round, oblique, oval, etc., etc.,
Now your ready for tape and mud!
Which I’ll cover in my next article!
