Fixing Broken Roof Tiles

Fixing concrete or ceramic roof tiles can be easy with a couuple of quick steps….

On a two story, it can be a little more challenging,

For the purpose of this article, I’ll discuss the most difficult….A two story house that requires two ladders,

If someone is afraid of heights all the instruction in the world won’t help, but at least that someone could instruct someone else, lol,

I prefer a little giant ladder (or variation), for my first ladder, and a standard retractable aluminum ladder for my second run,

*Safety Note…please check your anti slip safety shoes/feet, especially if your second ladder run is from a pitched roof, and do not attempt this if the tiles are wet…..The anti slip feet, grip the tiles very well!

Carry the second ladder up the 1st ladder, and place it on the 1st roof, climb up onto the 1st roof and securly place your 2nd ladder and go back down,

Place any items needed for the repair in a backpack so your hands will be free when climbing the ladders,

The items needed for the repair are a tube of roof tile adhesive available at Home Depot or Lowes (place your tube in the gun, snip the end off the applicator and puncture the seal ahead of time), small c-clamps, a caulk gun and the broken tile if it fell onto the ground.

*Note….Have a few different small c-clamp sizes to insure having the right size, use good judjement to avoid multiple trips up and down the ladder,

When climbing the ladder, take your time and focus on each step,

Once on the roof, take the broken tile and practice fitting the broken pieces together and positioning the broken tile in it’s correct placement, before applying the adhesive,

Grab the caulk gun, apply the adhesive all along the edge of the broken tile and the top and bottom of the tile, for the purpose of connecting the broken tile to the top and bottom tiles where they overlap, this will be hidden when the tile is placed because it’s applied where the tiles overlap, this will further secure the broken tile,

Once the tile is placed with the adhevive, use the c-clamps on the top and bottom, where the tiles overlap to hold the tile in place and squeeze the adhesive at the overlap,

Keep the c-clamps on there for at least 24 hrs to give the adhesive time to cure,

That’s it, great job, please take your time going back down!
