Converting a Swing Gate to a Sliding Gate

Alot of times a swing gate is kinda like a French Door in that when it “swings”, anything in it’s path will prohit it from fully swinging fully open, this can be a challange when it comes to furniture,

As was the case with a swing gate covering pool equipment, nothing could be in the path of the gate when the pool guy came and needed to access the pool equipment.

So,

We re-anchored the 4×4’s to the block wall using “Wedge Anchors” (which I wrote about in a previous post), we then purchased six wheels and screwed them to the bottom of the gate (in our case, we used three on each side)

Next,

We then purchased some PVC piping, six inch bolts + 24 nuts and 4 eye hooks (for the PVC piping to slide through), two on each side, both top and bottom,

Finally,

We drilled holes throgh the 4×4’s, on both sides of the gate, again, both top and bottom, put a nut on the outside, we then drilled holes in the PVC piping to slide over the bolts on the other side of the 4×4, we the put a nut, slid the PVC pipe through the bolt and put a nut on the otherside, (repeat this 4 times but don’t tighten the outside nut to much, as you will need to remove the outside nut to slide the PVC piping through the eye hook)

Plese refer to the photos below to get a good visual

Have fun!
