Hanging and Centering a Heavy Mirror

When it comes to hanging a heavy mirror, it must be anchored directly into the studs, using sheetrock achors is to risky,

So,

The first tool you will need is a stud finder, once you find the studs mark them with a pencil on both sides, now you may notice that the hangers on the back of the mirror are not in line with the studs you just marked and they may need to be moved to be in line with the studs, the next step is to measure, and remember when attempting to center a mirror or artwork, it’s better to measure 2-3 times for every mark you make, you don’t want to have to take it down once it’s up.

In cases where a ceiling is arched or vaulted, you may need to measure from the floor,

The measrements needed, are the width of the wall that the mirror will be mounted on and the width of the mirror, subtract the wall width from the mirror width and divide by two, measure and mark this distance from each side of the wall, place the mirror between these two marks.

Next,

You’ll need to see where the hangers are in relation to the studs, and move them if necessary, it is critical that they are at the same height, so, measue as many time as necessary in order to get this right, they also must line up with the studs that you marked,

Now,

You’ll want to determine the height of your mirror on the wall, mark this using the previously marked studs as the distance from each wall, again, you may need to take this measurement from the floor, if the ceiling is arched or vaulted, mark where your wood screw will go,

Time to put your measurements to the test!

You may want to grab a partner at this time, especially if the mirror is wide, lift up one side and place the hanger on your screw, have your partner hold the mirror against the hanger while you lift it up the other side, your partner can help guide you by looking behind the mirror and help you place the hanger on the other wood screw.

If you measured well your mirror should look something like this
